Islamabad [Pakistan], July 28: Pakistani intelligence officials believe US President Donald Trump could order a ground offensive in Iran, sources told DPA on Monday. At least two officials told DPA that Trump is believed to be planning a limited ground assault to cut off Iran's coastal region before any peace deal, despite domestic pressure and warnings from generals against the move.
"There are so many signs he is planning it," one official said. "The deployment, the troops movement and the rhetoric."
Experts consider a US military invasion of Iran to be extremely risky. Troops would be exposed to missile and drone attacks without the protection afforded by US bases in the Gulf states. According to the think tank IISS, the Iranian armed forces comprise around 610,000 active-duty soldiers and paramilitary forces, as well as 350,000 reservists.
