Bratislava (Slovakia) Apr 10: HK DuklaTrencin beat HK DuklaMichalovce 3-1 in game five of their quarterfinal playoff of the Slovak ice hockey premiership on Friday, leading 3-2 in the best-of-seven series.
Canadian forward Aaron Berisha opened the score with a nifty shot to put Trencin ahead but the home team's defenseman David Mudrak evened things up 25 seconds before the first horn with an offensive trip during a 4-on-4 play.
In the second period, Trencin's another Canadian forward Kruise Reddick redirected Carl Ackered's shot to put the visitors ahead again, 2-1. His teammates tasted blood and increased their offensive activities but Michalovce goalkeeper Tomas Tomek stood fast.
The home team tried to even things up in the final period but had trouble penetrating Trencin'sdefense. The visitors were dangerous on the resulting numerous breakaways.
The important goal was scored in the 56th when Trencin defenseman Rajnoha was given too much space and had no trouble putting the puck behind Tomek's back, stretching the lead to 3-1.
"Scoring just one goal is far from enough. We were not able to overcome Trencin'sdefense. That is the main reason for our failure. I hope we will improve for Game 6," explained Michalovce coach TomekValtonen.
