Barcelona [Spain], October 5: At least three people have been killed and at least one person is missing after severe storms struck Spain, with more than 200 millimetres of rain recorded in places over the Barcelona area and neighbouring regions to the north, the weather service AEMET said on Sunday.
Numerous roads, basements and ground-floor properties were flooded, trees were uprooted and rivers burst their banks.
A man was killed in the town of Tordera, around 65 kilometres north-east of Barcelona, when a wall collapsed on him, Mayor Elisabet Magias told the broadcaster Canal 24. A person died in the town of Montornes de Valles, according to the fire brigade, and a search was under way for a missing person in the Pineda de Mar area. A 102-year-old woman drowned in her home in the town of Madrigueras in the Castilla-La Mancha region on Saturday. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. (DPA)
