Beijing [China], March 11: At a session on the morning of March 10, the National Assembly of China elected General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Xi Jinping as President with an absolute majority.

On the morning of March 10, the 14th National People's Congress of China held its third and first plenary session. The delegates voted to elect the titles of State President, Vice President; Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC); Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, according to Xinhua News Agency.
The vote counting results showed that all 2,952 delegates present at the meeting unanimously elected Mr. Xi Jinping as President and Chairman of the CMC. After voting and checking the results for more than an hour, Mr. Xi stepped onto the podium to take the oath of office, beginning his third consecutive five-year term.
In the oath broadcast live on television, Mr. Xi pledged to "build a prosperous, democratic, civilized, harmonious and modern socialist nation".
Also at the meeting, all delegates agreed to elect First Deputy Prime Minister Han Chinh to the position of Vice President, replacing Mr. VuongKy Son. Han Zheng was a member of the 19th Politburo Standing Committee but was not included in the Politburo after the 20th Communist Party Congress in October last year. However, he was the only one out of four who left the Politburo Standing Committee after the 20th National Congress to be elected a member of the new National Assembly.
Completing the new leadership apparatus
Yesterday, the congress also elected Mr. Trieu Lac Te to replace Mr. Li Chien Thu as head of the Standing Committee of Nhan Dai, or Chairman of the National Assembly, with an absolute majority. Before that, Mr. Trieu was a Politburo Standing Member, Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. Yesterday, the delegates elected Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Mr. Ly Hong Trung and Secretary General Mr. Luu Ky. Previously, the delegates also voted to approve the decision on the plan to reform the government apparatus.
