Kathmandu [Nepal], October 23: At least six people were killed and three others injured after a jeep plunged into a river in south-central Nepal's Palpa district.
The jeep was heading toward Rani Mahal, a famous tourist destination in the district, when it skidded off the road in a narrow gorge.
The driver was injured after jumping off the jeep before it plunged into the river, said Raj Kumar Chapagain, a district police officer.
Security forces were mobilized for the rescue operation, and two injured passengers were rescued and sent to a local hospital for treatment, Chapagain told Xinhua.
"As the jeep fell in a narrow gorge, the rescuers find it difficult in rescue," he said, adding that it was not clear how many passengers were aboard the jeep.
Road accidents are common in mountainous Nepal, and hundreds of lives are lost annually.
